Many Massachusetts towns now permit Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) on parcels zoned for single-family homes. In their April 2020 Annual Town Meeting, the voters of Concord will consider revising their Zoning Bylaw to enable ADUs. The studio above this backyard garage could readily be converted to a one-bedroom or studio apartment of approx 720sf.

In Process: Artists First
This addition to a 1920s grambrel-style cottage house adds studio space and an open bedroom suite for the two working artist residents. The gestural massing and the composition of opaque and transparent wall planes bias the interiors' relationships to greenspace and the horizon to the South and West, and away from the activity of nearby neighbors and car traffic to the North and East.
