WAINSCOT GREATROOM ACTON, MA

Featured in November/December 2010 issue of Design New England Magazine

Named Best Large Kitchen in 2007 Chrysalis Awards Program

In the 1980s, the space between a small 18th-century house and it's larger 19th-century barn was captured in the irregular footprint under the tall gabled volume here. The unscaled and disorienting volume housed a great room and kitchen.

Our design solution identifies a primary space inside an 8 foot high cherry wainscot which deforms to shape a library space, conceal a stair, and absorb the kitchen's upper cabinets.
